DBA Academy Player Secures UK School Scholarship Through Sport

At DBA Africa, we believe sport can do more than build strong players, it can build futures. For young athletes like Dalton Roy, sport has become a path to education, leadership, and global opportunity.

This August, Dalton will travel to the United Kingdom after earning a school scholarship to attend Kingsley School in Devon. His journey is a powerful reminder of what can happen when talent meets opportunity, and it reflects the wider goal of our work at DBA: changing lives through sport.

What Is a School Sports Scholarship?

A school scholarship is financial support that helps students attend top schools, often covering fees, housing, meals, and other expenses. A sport scholarship is awarded to students who show talent and potential in sports like rugby, football, or athletics.

Across Africa, these scholarships are literally life-changing opportunities. They allow young students to:
• Access high-quality education
• Travel and experience new cultures
• Grow personally and professionally
• Build a path toward university or elite sport
For many families, these scholarships remove the financial barriers and open doors that once felt out of reach.

Dalton’s Story: From DBA Rugby Academy to Devon

Dalton has trained with the DBA Rugby Academy for several years. He quickly stood out, showing skill, discipline, and leadership on and off the field. His performance at the Futures Cup and during the DBA Dream Team tour to Uganda helped raise his profile among scouts and schools.

Thanks to DBAs partnership with Kingsley School, Dalton has now been offered a sports scholarship to join their Sixth Form and rugby programme.

In August, he’ll begin pre-season training in the UK and start his academic journey in a new country. Dalton journey acts as a goal for numerous players with the academy’s, to have a chance to attend a new school, following in the footsteps of Rayvon Ambale, who joined Bryanston school UK, and even had a chance to play for Bath Rugby Junior academy.

Why Scholarships Matter

Dalton’s achievement is not just personal achievement; it shows the growing impact of rugby academies in Africa and the value of combining sport with education. At DBA Africa, we want more young people to benefit from high school scholarships for athletes. That’s why we focus on:
• Long-term athlete development
• Leadership and life-skills training
• International partnerships with schools and organisations
• Promoting gender equity and access for all

Creating More Success Stories

Dalton’s journey is just one of many. Every year, we support student-athletes in Uganda, Kenya, and beyond to pursue both sport and school. We work with families, coaches, and partners to identify talent, build pathways, and support applications to schools abroad.

Dalton’s story shows us what’s possible, and what’s next. At DBA Africa, we’ll keep doing the work to make sure more young people get the same shot: a chance to grow through sport, learn in new environments, and chase big dreams.

If you're a student, parent, or educator interested in study abroad opportunities through sport, we’d love to connect.
