The DBA Africa Family: More Than Just a Game

The DBA Africa Family: More Than Just a Game

Have you ever wondered what it truly means to be part of the DBA Africa family? It’s more than just training sessions, competitive matches, or trophies. It’s about being part of a movement where sport is the engine for profound, lasting change, a family carrying an ethos that builds athletes, leaders, and compassionate community members.

Our commitment goes beyond physical skills as the DBA Africa group. We run numerous sports programmes designed to keep young athletes and adults developing in sport while actively creating opportunities around it. We believe you don't have to be on the pitch to be involved; there are crucial aspects we are keen on developing for life after the game.

Our Four Pillars of Purpose

Everything we do is built upon our four pillars:

  1. Changing Lives Through Sport, One Athlete at a Time: Our fundamental goal is to use the power of sport to uplift individuals.
  2. From Grassroots to Greatness, Pathways With Purpose: We create clear, supportive routes for development, ensuring every talent has a chance to flourish.
  3. Empowering Girls & Women: A dedication to ensuring equity, access, and opportunity for every girl and woman in our community.
  4. Integrity & Local Leadership: Fostering honesty, accountability, and developing strong leaders from within the local community.

Programmes Driving Impact Throughout the Year

We would like to share some of the initiatives and programmes that define our work and solidify the DBA Africa family experience:

Access & Opportunity

  • The Athletics Race Fund: This vital fund is in place to give athletes access to competitions. Many of our dedicated athletes spend countless hours training; this fund ensures their hard work is rewarded with the opportunity to compete, be seen, and test their abilities on a formal stage.
  • Girls Inclusion in Sport: We are actively breaking down barriers to playtime. This is made possible through our dedicated academies, tournaments, tours, and seminars. Beyond the game, these initiatives also offer short-term job opportunities for young women, further promoting empowerment.

Education & Exchange

  • Coaching Pathways: We firmly believe in educating our educators. The right messaging, of integrity, development, and community, needs to start at the top and trickle down. This programme offers those interested in coaching or educating a unique opportunity to further their knowledge base through enriching experiences and exposure.
  • Global Partnership: This initiative gives our family a crucial opportunity to exchange cultures with different nations, as well as exchange resources that are mutually beneficial. A shining example of this is our amazing collaboration with the Australian High Commission.

 Advocacy & Safety

  • Advocacy in Gender Related Issues (The Tackle It Programme): Through this focused programme, we have crafted a safe space for children and young adults to express themselves on issues related to gender-based violence. We are dedicated to educating them and walking them through essential reporting procedures, turning silence into strength.

Pathways to the Future

  • Local & International Scholarships: Through our robust relationships, we have been able to forge amazing collaborations with schools locally and internationally. Our children are immediate beneficiaries through scholarships, both full and partial, opening doors to academic and sporting excellence.
  • The Futures Cup Tournament: After formally solidifying our work with satellite programmes, we created the Futures Cup. This tournament is in place to give both boys and girls an opportunity to play and be seen by the world of sporting opportunities.
  • The Annual Tour: Following the Futures Cup, we select the best performing boys and girls to create one strong team that will represent the age group on an annual tour. For two years running now, we have been able to take both the boys and the girls on a significant tour each, to destinations like Kampala and the Kenyan coast, providing invaluable exposure and experience.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we gear up for 2026, we are looking forward to a year filled with sport development, impactful support, and a great working relationship with the community. Being part of the DBA Africa family is committing to a future where every child has a path to success, on and off the field.
