DBA Africa Q3 A Season of Purpose and Impact
This past quarter, DBA Africa moved beyond the pitch and into the heart of our communities, bringing to life our core pillars: Changing Lives Through Sport, Empowering Girls & Women, Pathways from Grassroots to Greatness, and Integrity & Local Leadership. From thrilling tournaments to life-changing scholarships, Q3 was a testament to our commitment to building a new future for youth sport in Kenya.
From Local Fields to National Stage
Our third quarter was defined by action on the field. We created platforms for young athletes to shine, showcasing talent from every corner of the country. The Futures Cup marked a historic first as our inaugural girls-only tournament, bringing together teams from Western, Central Rift Valley, and Nairobi. This event was a powerful statement on our commitment to empowering female athletes. We also provided critical competition opportunities at the Kingsley Cup, nurturing grassroots talent from Nakuru and Nairobi.
Our reach expanded to national tournaments, with five DBA satellite academies represented at the Prinsloo 7s and four teams competing at the prestigious Christie 7s in Nairobi. These events are vital for player development and exposure, proving that our focus on structured grassroots programs is paying off.
Opening Doors to Opportunity
Beyond the field, we focused on breaking down the barriers that hold young athletes back. The launch of the Athletics Race Fund (ARF) was a major milestone, directly addressing financial obstacles by providing support for race entry, travel, and accommodation. This fund ensures that talent isn't wasted simply because of a lack of funds.
The quarter also highlighted our unwavering commitment to creating life-changing opportunities. Darlton Roy George, a talented athlete from our program, received a scholarship to Kingsley School in Devon, England, a monumental step that will allow him to pursue both his education and sport at a highier level. This scholarship is a testament to our belief in Mentorship Over Management, we guide and advise our athletes.
Building Community and Fostering Integrity
Our work extends far beyond the game itself. In Q3, we strengthened our community and reinforced our identity. The launch of the DBA Africa Supporter’s Shirt was a huge success, creating a sense of pride and belonging among our athletes and fans. Our DBA Coast Coaches organized the Seacreast Rugby Festival, a 10s tournament that brought the community together in Mombasa.
We also celebrated a significant moment for women's sport by hosting a Womens Rugby Final watch party at Wasp and Sprout, bringing together fans, community members, and female athletes to celebrate the game and inspire the next generation. We continue to invest in our people and partnerships, with our coaches completing a Health Advocacy for Sports & Development course in conjunction with LVCT and One2One Health, ensuring our teams are equipped with the knowledge to create a safe and healthy environment.
Q3 was a season of growth and purpose. We are proud of the lives we've impacted and the platforms we've created, all guided by our foundational values.
