Champions of Change: How Shirleen Ingaso is Paving the Way for a New Generation
The past year has been a landmark success for the DBA Africa scholarship programme. In our mission to bridge the gap between talented young athletes and educational institutions, we have seen first-hand how intentional youth development can rewrite a child's future.
Through our tailor-made projects, ranging from high-stakes fixtures to in-house festivals, DBA Africa has immersed our athletes in environments that demand excellence. By positioning our academy players in the limelight, we provide a direct pathway for selection to top-tier clubs, schools, and universities.
Bridging the Gap Through Strategic Connection
At DBA Africa, we believe education and sport are inseparable. This is why we consistently invite coaches, headteachers, and supporters to our tournaments and fixtures. These events provide a first-hand look at our athletes' skills and character, fostering the kind of NGO partnerships for youth development that turn potential into reality.
As students across the country prepare to report to school this week, we are taking a moment to celebrate one of our most aspiring athletes, Shirleen Ingaso.
Shirleen’s Journey: From the Academy to Sigoti Complex
Shirleen has been a prominent figure within the DBA Africa ranks, featuring heavily in our festivals, the inaugural Futures Cup, and the recent Dream Team tour to the coast. Whether on or off the pitch, Shirleen has consistently demonstrated the local leadership and grit we strive to instill in every athlete.
Coming from a humble background, Shirleen "ownes" her time at the academy. She doesn’t just play the game; she embodies the life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience, aspects that define our programme. Her hard work has officially paid off, Shirleen has been awarded a prestigious sports scholarship to Sigoti Complex Girls School in Western Kenya.
A Pioneer for the Future
Shirleen is a pioneer, one of the first girls from our programmes to receive a local scholarship of this magnitude. In a recent conversation before her departure, she shared what this opportunity means to her.
"Sport has the ability to change people's lives," Shirleen noted, expressing her deep gratitude to her coaches and the wider DBA family for believing in her.
She isn't just excited for her own education; she is determined to be an inspiration for every other girl in the academy who dreams of a similar path. While Shirleen is just one of our success stories this year, her voice represents many. She is proof that when we provide a safe space and the right sports opportunities, there is no limit to what these young adults can achieve.
Our Continued Commitment
As we look ahead, DBA Africa remains committed to actualizing youth development in the region. Shirleen’s story is a testament to the impact of our work and the power of sport as a tool for social mobility.
