Andy Clements Returns to Kenya

GB Masters Hurdler Andy Clements Returns to Kenya for a Follow-Up Masterclass

Two years after his first visit, the European number one in the 400m hurdles flew in from Dubai to coach Kenyan athletes at Nyayo National Stadium.

We were delighted to welcome Andy Clements back to Kenya, two years after his first visit. A GB Masters hurdler and one of the UK's most experienced sprints and hurdles coaches, Andy travelled from Dubai with Alysha Clements to lead a hurdling masterclass for local athletes, organised by DBA Africa.

His aim was simple: to upskill and support Kenyan runners, and to teach the technical skills that help talented athletes take their next step. Andy is a keen believer in the Athletics Race Fund and firmly believes it will assist athletes reach greater heights.

Where it began

Andy first came to Kenya in 2024 to work with athletes supported through our Tujiamini campaign. During that visit he coached Fridah Ndinda, a very promising long-distance athlete, and Rukia Nusra.

Rukia has since moved to the United States to continue her studies and build on her hurdling career, the youth development and pathways we believe in. Her journey shows what is possible when talent meets the right support and expert coaching.

An early start at Nyayo

The follow-up masterclass took place early in the morning at Nyayo National Stadium. We expected three or four athletes. Around eight turned up, a clear sign of how much young Kenyan athletes value specialist coaching.

Andy was pleased to work with Fridah again, alongside other athletes including Eddie Ngunjiri, Kenya's top 400m hurdler. The session was lively and vibrant. Athletes kept the questions coming, and Andy made every drill engaging, whatever the athlete's level.

Andy also came bearing gifts. He brought running vests, shorts and running shoes, which he handed out to the athletes who took part. For athletes training on limited resources, good kit makes a real difference.
