The DBA Africa Girls Dream Team U15 just wrapped up a resounding, successful tour in Mombasa, leaving a trail of triumph and unforgettable memories. Hosted by the Little Sports Organisation (LSO) team, the weekend was a showcase of talent, determination, and incredible team spirit that truly embodied the heart of Kenyan rugby development.

This tour served as a powerful platform for the DBA Africa team to actively advocate for youth development and to highlight the valuable opportunities that young boys and girls can explore through organized sports. This event marks the first initiative in what is planned to be a continuous series of impactful programs.

A Journey of Dreams and Discovery

The journey itself was a major milestone for many of the girls and DBA Africa. The team was a blend of emerging talents, with players joining from across Kenya (Western) including six brilliant additions from Nakuru who linked up with the full squad in Nairobi. Full team list here.

Their trip to the coast on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) was an adventure in itself, marking the first time many of the young athletes had ever ventured outside their hometowns. This tour was more than just rugby; it was a journey of personal accomplishment and broadening horizons, a follow up from the concluded U15 Girls Futures Cup.

Fixtures and Fierce Competition

Braeburn School Mombasa provided the perfect host venue for the weekend's action-packed fixtures. Despite having only two training sessions together before the tournament, the team played like seasoned veterans, gelling instantly into a formidable force.

The team faced off against some of the country's leading academies in a thrilling round-robin tournament:

• DBA Africa defeated Likoni Rugby with a strong 20-0 victory.
• They followed this up by handing the Ololo Foundation a comprehensive 50-0 defeat.
• The toughest challenge came next, resulting in a narrow 5-0 loss to a strong opponent, completing the round-robin games.

Their impressive performance saw them finish 2nd in the round-robin standings, setting up a nail-biting rematch in the final against the top-ranked LSO team, the same team that had just beaten them.

The Championship Final: Sweet Triumph.

The final was a tense, thrilling battle for the cup. Showing incredible resilience and heart, the DBA Africa Girls Dream Team executed a phenomenal turnaround, dominating the final game and securing a hard-fought 10-5 win over LSO.

The victory sealed the Round Robin Tournament Cup for the Dream Team, a testament to their immediate connection and raw talent. Selectors within the DBA Africa team were ecstatic with the talent brought forward during the tour.

Player Spotlight: Sharon Atieno - Tournament MVP

Sharon Atieno, one of our standout players from the Nakuru program, earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the tournament. She was a complete standout throughout the fixtures, displaying exceptional all-around proficiency. Sharon's contributions were critical; she was effective as a playmaker, consistently scored crucial points, and efficiently converted. Beyond her technical skills, her phenomenal leadership qualities were instrumental in uniting the team and driving their collective success on the field.

More Than Just a Game

Beyond the try-line and tackles, the DBA Africa tour focused on holistic development and unforgettable experiences.

The team's program was packed with creative ways to bond and enjoy the coast:

• Team Bonding Sessions to foster their incredible chemistry.
• Beach Visits to relax and enjoy the coastal atmosphere.
• Three Wholesome Meals a Day, an essential part of the experience, particularly for some girls who don't always have access to regular meals.
• Sightseeing Opportunities across the beautiful coast.

The girls wore their DBA Africa regalia with immense pride, truly representing the spirit and ambition of the program.
