DBA Africa Girls Dream Team Sets Sail to the Coast on a Rugby Tour.

Elevating Girls' Inclusion: A DBA Africa Pillar in Action

Following the triumphant success of the DBA Africa Boys Dream Team Tour and the energy of the recent Girls Futures Cup, we are proud to announce the next major step in our commitment to girls' inclusion: the official launch of the DBA Africa Girls Dream Team Tour.

This DBA Africa tour is more than just a series of fixtures; it is the culmination of months of dedication, a testament to the raw, amazing talent fostered through our grassroots Girls Rugby academies and festivals and a powerful statement about providing equal opportunities for our young female athletes to shine on a larger stage.

From Futures Cup to Dream Team: The Selection Process

The Girls Futures Cup served as the ultimate scouting ground, showcasing the best up-and-coming athletes. Just as with the boys, a dedicated team of selectors tracked the girls' performance throughout the tournament, identifying the stand-out talent in every fixture. Being able to track these athletes from the very start of the program to this point is an incredible achievement for the entire DBA Africa team.

The selected squad represents the finest, ready to make their mark on the Coast:

The team is comprised of strong, agile and athletes who take team work first, featuring a significant core from the Rift Valley Lakers (RVL) who demonstrated exemplary performance in the Futures Cup, alongside powerful athletes from Nairobi (NBO), Western Wanderers (WW), and CA. We believe that, united, this team will be a force to reckon with.

We celebrate all selected athletes. Due to ongoing studies, some standouts, like Angel Ngina from the Nairobi Bulldozers, could not make the trip as school is still in session, highlighting their dedication to both education and sport. We look forward to watching the athletes who made it, especially talents like Sharon Atieno from RVL, who is set to tear up the pitch as she always does.

The team will be guided by an exceptionally qualified coaching staff composed of seasoned professionals and international athletes. The lead coach, Hassan Ali, brings rigorous international experience, having coached the Kenya Lacrosse team and contributed to rugby development at Kingsley School in Devon. He is joined by Adelaide Nasambu Mukhebi, a distinguished former rugby star who now expertly leads the age-grade programmes within the DBA Africa Nairobi Academy. Rounding out the expertise is Leaz Nekesa, a current Kenya 15s international player and a highly valued lead coach for the Nairobi Bulldozers.

The Tour: Coast Challenge Fixtures

The Dream Team is heading to the Coast for a thrilling round-robin tournament organized by Little Sport Organisation (LSO) founder Michael Flynn and our own tournaments and academy head, Philip Wamae.

The fixtures will be hosted at the Braeburn International School in Mombasa, featuring challenging matches against:

  • Little Sport Organisation (LSO)
  • Rugby Gem
  • Ololo Foundation
  • Bulldogs

This platform offers the girls invaluable experience, testing their skills against regional competition and showcasing the caliber of talent emerging from the tour program.

Gratitude

DBA Africa extends heartfelt thanks to the Little Sport Organisation and Braeburn International School for their immense support. Their partnership has been instrumental in organizing the logistics and securing the top-tier venue required to host a successful and memorable tour for our Dream Team.

We invite all our supporters to follow the journey of the DBA Africa Girls Dream Team on the Coast. This is more than a game, it is an investment in the future of African women's rugby and a demonstration of our unwavering commitment to inclusion.
