INTRODUCTION
At DBA Africa, we believe that the pursuit of sporting excellence and formal education are inseparable pillars of a young person’s success. We are firmly committed to the philosophy that athletic talent is a powerful bridge to a brighter future, providing young athletes with the unique opportunity to transform their lives through academic advancement. Since our inception, we have been honored to partner with numerous forward-thinking institutions and schools that share our vision, extending vital support to our athletes as they balance the demands of the classroom with that of the pitch.
To facilitate these life-changing pathways, we actively utilize our premier rugby festivals, invited fixtures, the Futures Cup, and the Kingsley Cup as performance showcases for emerging talent. These platforms are designed to open doors, connecting our players with prestigious scholarship opportunities and academic scouts. We warmly invite school heads, games masters, and educators to visit our academies and attend DBA Africa events to witness firsthand the discipline and skill of our athletes. Together, we can create a sustainable ecosystem where sporting passion serves as a catalyst for educational achievement and lifelong empowerment.
This goes hand in hand with our core pillars, changing lives through sport, pathways from grassroots to greatness, girls inclusion and local leadership.
The Scholarship Programme
Kenya is rich in sporting talent, yet thousands of promising young athletes are sidelined by a lack of access to education. While school fees may be subsidised, the "hidden costs", uniforms, transport, and equipment, remain insurmountable for many families.
The Reality:
- 800,000+ children will miss secondary school this year due to poverty.
- 47–55% of eligible youth are currently out of school, increasing risks of crime, drug abuse, and exploitation.
The DBA Sports Scholarship Fund (SSF) bridges this gap for talent in all sports. We provide exceptional young male and female athletes in Kenya with two lifelines, elite sporting development and quality education.
The Problem & Our Solution
For many talented young athletes, a lack of access to education means the end of their sporting journey and the opportunities it creates. Without intervention, talent is lost.
The SSF delivers a triple return on investment:
- Lives Changed: Breaking the cycle of poverty through wholesome development.
- Talent Developed: Creating a structured pathway for local and international sporting excellence.
- a. Brands Strengthened: Offering corporate donors high-impact CSR, SDG and ESG alignment.
b. Individual Giving: A unique opportunity to directly support and follow a talented athlete’s educational journey.
