Sponsorship Shortfall Forces Postponement of Boys Futures Cup

DBA Africa regrets to announce the postponement of the Boys Futures Cup, originally scheduled for July 2025, due to a shortfall in sponsorship. The tournament is now tentatively rescheduled for December 2025, pending successful fundraising in the coming months.

“Without adequate corporate sponsorship, youth sports development programmes like ours cannot exist. These platforms are critical not only to grooming future national team players but also to connecting brands directly with communities” said DBA Africa Partnerships manager Joseph Steventon.

While the delay is disappointing, DBA remains committed to providing every young athlete with access to meaningful opportunities. However, if the necessary funds are not secured, the 2025 Boys Futures Cup may be cancelled entirely.

More Than a Tournament: A Gateway to Scholarships and Opportunity

The Futures Cup is more than just a youth sports tournament, it is a direct pipeline to life-changing opportunities for talented young players.

In 2024 alone, over 10 local scholarships were awarded through the tournament. Progress has also been made in engaging international schools and recruiters, who are beginning to recognise Futures Cup as a credible scouting platform for emerging Kenyan talent for interfnational scholarships. Unfortunately, If the tournament doesn’t take place, those scholarship pathways vanish, and with them, the futures of many deserving kids.

Girls Futures Cup: Moving Forward with Purpose

Despite these challenges, DBA Africa is proud to confirm that the Girls Futures Cup will proceed as planned on 13th July 2025 in Nairobi (venue TBC). This bold decision reflects the organisation’s commitment to empowering girls and driving inclusion.

“Girls are too often the first to lose out when resources are stretched. We’re flipping the script and putting them first,” said DBA Founder Storm Trentham.

The Girls Futures Cup will bring together teams from across the country, giving young female athletes a platform to shine and connect with mentorship and opportunity.
