Chasing Greatness

Nine DBA Africa Athletes Set to Take on the Nairobi City Marathon

Following our recent call-out inviting local athletes to register for the upcoming Nairobi City Marathon through DBA Africa socials, the response from the running community has been nothing short of incredible. Today, we are thrilled to announce that we have successfully finalised entries for nine promising athletes who will represent our vision on the grand stage of one of Africa’s premier road races.

Our final lineup features a spectacular blend of rising talent ready to push their limits:

  • Collins Kimutai
  • Kipkurui Elisha
  • Godwin Kimutai
  • Peterson Wambugu
  • Randy Michael Otieno
  • Evan Omanga
  • Glender Achieng Wamonje
  • Vivian Jelagat
  • Sharon Kipchumba

Powered by Community Collaboration

Securing these spots was made possible through our core initiative, the Athletics Race Fund (ARF), which works tirelessly to remove the financial and logistical barriers that so often keep talented runners from competing. Initially, seven athletes were registered directly via our open call. However, the true spirit of the running community shone through when two additional self-sponsored athletes reached out to us. Having secured their own race slots, they requested crucial financial support to handle the steep costs of travel and accommodation, a request we were incredibly proud to fulfill, bringing our total squad to nine.

An initiative of this scale requires a dedicated team, and we extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible partners. This campaign has been made fully possible this month through the generous support of Healthy U and the Sweat Squad, a vibrant, community-minded training group based right out of Westlands. Their shared commitment to grassroots athletic development ensures these runners have the backing they need to step onto the starting line with confidence, proudly wearing their Sweat Squat athletics vest.

Logistics: From Iten to Nairobi

Managing a race contingent requires precision execution. Six of our entered athletes will be making the long journey from the historic, high-altitude training grounds of Iten to the capital city, the remaining are local Nairobi athletes. For several of these runners, this momentous occasion marks their very first time traveling to Nairobi to compete.

To ensure a seamless experience, Peterson Wambugu will double as an active competitor and our designated logistics lead on the ground. He will be responsible for overseeing the travel party, ensuring that transit runs smoothly. From departure to arrival, DBA Africa is handling 100% of the transport, accommodation, and coordination logistics. Meanwhile, our three Nairobi-based athletes will operate directly from home, enjoying familiar surroundings before joining up with the rest of the team.

The Countdown to Race Day

The squad is scheduled to arrive in Nairobi early on the morning of Saturday, 6th June. Their first stop will be the event to collect their official race bibs and packs, before heading into an afternoon of vital rest, hydration, and mental preparation.

When the morning of Sunday, 7th June arrives, our athletes will stand alongside over 15,000 runners to "feel the pulse of Nairobi." We wish our entire team the absolute best of luck as they take on the course. We have immense faith in their training, and we are heavily rooting for at least one of them to finish on the podium.
