Champions on the Pitch

Kabras Sugar RFC Inspires Next Generation at DBA Nairobi Rugby Academy

What a weekend to remember for the young athletes at the DBA Africa Nairobi Rugby Academy as they received a special visit from the newly crowned Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup champions, Kabras Sugar RFC. Fresh off their triumphant weekend victory, the champions took the time to give back to the grassroots game, bringing immense energy, inspiration, and elite-level expertise to our Nairobi grounds.

Representing Kabras RFC on coaching duty were standout players, Jackson Sketta, Michael Lukusi, Adrian Khwesa, Steve Odhiambo, Roy Maruti, and Mathias Osimbo with their team manager,  Wilson Omondi. The moment they stepped onto the pitch, the young academy players recognized their heroes, instantly gravitating toward them with high spirits and excitement.

A Masterclass in Rugby Excellence

To maximize the impact of the visit, the Kabras players paired up and rotated across our various age grades, ensuring every single student had the opportunity to interact with, learn from, and be inspired by the champions.

The session was far from a casual meet-and-greet. The guest coaches delivered a comprehensive, high-intensity training session that covered fundamental and advanced rugby skills, including:

  • Passing & Playmaking.
  • Tactical Kicking.
  • Safe & Effective Tackling.

"In coaching, we often find that a message the children hear from us every day takes on a powerful new meaning when delivered by a fresh, respected voice," noted Storm Trentham. "Having the Kabras players echo these principles brought a whole new level of understanding and focus to our athletes."

The Nairobi Rugby Academy was buzzing with vibrant energy as the students pushed themselves to acquire new skills and sharpen their existing ones under the guidance of Kenya's finest.

Community Spirit and Looking Ahead

The incredible day was made even more special by a wonderful gesture from one of our academy parents, who generously provided meals for all the participants and players. DBA Africa extends its heartfelt gratitude for this kindness, which fueled the kids after a rigorous day on the field.

We want to say a massive thank you to Kabras Sugar RFC for their humility, dedication, and for investing their time into the future of Kenyan rugby.

As May comes to a close, this unforgettable experience sets a high bar for the academy. We head into a new month fueled by this championship energy, ready for upcoming competitions and trips.
