DBA Africa’s ARF Squad Takes on Uasin Gishu County’s Premier Races!
November 30th marked a high-energy day for running in Uasin Gishu County, and DBA Africa's Athletics Race Fund (ARF) was thrilled to ensure five of our dedicated athletes had their chance to compete on the big stage. We proudly entered our runners into two highly anticipated events: the TechRun Eldoret Race and the iconic Iten International Marathon.
Both races attracted massive numbers and produced incredibly fast times, confirming their status as key events where athletes seek recognition, potential management, and a chance to shine globally. “As DBA Africa we were immensely proud to have sorted out the athletes registrations and logistics around the 2 events” Lylle Asiligwa our director said.
Race Day Snapshot: Speed and Fierce Competition
The competition was intense across all distances and we believe that such high level running events are a great opportunity for youth development in sport. Some key results
- Iten International Marathon (42KM): The men’s winner clocked a blazing 2:12:09, and the women’s champion finished in 2:32:11.
- TechRun Eldoret Race (10KM): This event, which kicked off a major tech convention, was just as swift, with the first male finishing in a searing 28:13 and the first female in 31:00.
The margin for error was tiny, the difference between the top 10 finishers was just 45 seconds in the TechRun and 1 minute in the Iten Marathon. Our athletes entered the fray knowing they had to push their limits, and they did so with the limited resources they had.
ARF Athletes: Grit and Determination
DBA Africa had runners competing in the 10KM events at both the TechRun and the Iten International Marathon, as well as the full 42KM race at Iten.
TechRun Eldoret Race (10KM):
| Name | Time | Position |
| Isack Kibet | 32:54 | 162nd |
| Mawel Akuei | 33:50 | 221st |
Iten International Marathon (42KM):
The marathon tested the mental and physical resilience of every participant. Two of our three entrants, unfortunately, did not complete the race due to injury: Elkana Parningo fell during the race, and Philice Kipkerio also sustained an injury, forcing her withdrawal.
However, Boman Kapsiya displayed immense fortitude, withstanding the brutal challenge to complete the full 42KM in a strong time of 2:19:00, finishing in 162nd place. His perseverance is a testament to the spirit of the Athletics Race Fund program.
Looking Forward to Moiben
While challenges like race injuries are a reality, the opportunity to compete is priceless. The ARF continues its mission to provide vital support and exposure for these talented runners. We are now enthusiastically looking ahead to the Moiben Race, where we have secured 20 slots for our elite runners. This next event offers another chance for our athletes to achieve their personal bests and be noticed.
The journey continues, fueled by dedication and the support of the Athletics Race Fund.
