Empowering Coaches, Building Futures
At DBA Africa, we understand that an athlete’s journey extends far beyond the final whistle or the finish line. It’s a path rich with discipline, hardships and unparalleled leadership skills that, when nurtured, can create a powerful legacy. Our mission is to not only support athletes during their competitive careers but also to provide them with meaningful and sustainable pathways forward. A central part of this work is helping coaches grow into leaders who can shape the future of sport and community.
Transitioning from a life of competitive sports to a new career can be a significant challenge for many athletes. While they may not have traditional employment certifications, they possess a unique and invaluable set of attributes: teamwork, dedication and the ability to perform under pressure. At DBA Africa, we are intentional about harnessing these skills and transforming them into fulfilling coaching, teaching, and mentorship opportunities.
Since our inception, we have been dedicated to empowering both current and past athletes to become influential figures in their communities. We have seen firsthand how individuals like the legendary Andrew Amonde have embraced these roles, shaping the lives of young, aspiring talents. The success stories are countless, with many of our athletes discovering a new passion for giving back to the sport and the community that supported them.
The promotion of local leadership and integrity is one of our core pillars. We believe that the most effective leaders are those who have firsthand experience of the journey they are guiding others through. DBA Africa’s investment in coaching development is a testament to this belief., by creating new coaching opportunities, we are not just providing employment; we are building a robust network of ethical leaders who will carry our values and continue the cycle of empowerment for generations to come.
Another vital pillar of our work is the promotion of girls' inclusion and the advancement of women in sports. This is clearly reflected in the expert coaching and girls’ programs we run. We are incredibly proud of the inspiring women who work under the DBA umbrella, including Mercy Migongo, who recently returned from a transformative rugby educational trip to the UK and South Africa. We also celebrate the contributions of Kenyan rugby stars like Adelaide Mukhebi, Knight Otwoma, Diana Kemunto and Anne Njeri, who serve as powerful role models for the next generation of female athletes.
The future of African sports is about more than just producing world-class champions; it is about building a strong, inclusive foundation for the future. Through this work, we as a DBA community are ensuring that the wisdom, experience, and leadership of our athletes is passed on, creating a lasting legacy of integrity, discipline and success.
