Empowering Ugandan Girls Through Lacrosse
At DBA Africa, we believe in the transformative power of sports. It's more than just a game; it's a vehicle for creating life-changing opportunities, building strong communities, and fostering powerful leaders. A key pillar of our work is the inclusion and empowerment of girls, and our DBA Uganda Lacrosse programme is a perfect example of this in action.
This program, which is fully run and managed by amazing local leaders who are Ugandan International Lacrosse players themselves, has not only introduced girls to the sport of lacrosse but has also created a safe space where they can thrive.
Mentoring the Next Generation of Leaders
The coaches play a pivotal role in this program. These International Lacrosse players serve as mentors, guiding these young athletes to become local leaders within their communities through sports. Through the soft skills they learn at DBA AFRICA soft skills, they instill values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience. They're helping these girls build confidence on and off the field, proving that when you give girls a chance, they can achieve incredible things.
In addition to developing their athleticism and leadership skills, the program also addresses essential needs. With the support of Reagan Ochan, a Ugandan Lacrosse player on a scholarship in the US, we are providing the athletes with sanitary products and educational materials. This support is crucial, allowing the girls to focus on their training and education without added barriers. This is the local leadership we stand for.
The DBA Uganda Lacrosse programme is more than just a sports initiative; it's a movement dedicated to empowering the next generation of female leaders in Uganda. By providing a safe and supportive environment, we are not only developing skilled athletes but also confident, resilient, and community-minded individuals.
