DBA Africa Q1 2025 Impact Report | Sports Development in Kenya and Africa

DBA Africa’s Quarter One 2025 impact highlights partnerships, academy fixtures, women’s sport support, athlete funding, safeguarding programmes, and grassroots sports development in Kenya and Africa.

DBA Africa Quarter One 2025: Building Momentum Through Partnerships, Play, and Purpose

The first quarter of 2025 marked a strong start for DBA Africa, reinforcing its role in sports development in Kenya and Africa through strategic partnerships, competitive fixtures, and direct athlete support. From grassroots programmes to elite exposure, DBA continued to expand opportunities for young athletes across multiple sports.

Strengthening the Game Through Strategic Partnerships

DBA Africa partnered with URU to provide equipment support for the Men’s and Women’s Sevens programs in Uganda Rugby Union, strengthening preparation for local and regional rugby fixtures in Africa. Access to quality equipment remains central to rugby development in Africa, ensuring athletes train and compete in safe, professional environments.

Beyond rugby, DBA Africa expanded its impact by partnering with Kenya Hockey, supplying equipment to 10 Women’s Premier League teams. This collaboration highlights DBA’s growing commitment to women’s sports development in Kenya, supporting high-performance environments across disciplines.

Fixtures, Exposure, and Competitive Development

During Quarter One, DBA Africa teams featured in multiple local fixtures, using competitive play as a platform for talent development and identification. A key highlight was playing against a touring team preparing for the Rosslyn Park Tournament in the UK, providing academy athletes with valuable international-level exposure and experience.

Athlete Support and Academy Pathways

DBA Africa continued to fund athletes to race and compete, removing financial barriers that often limit progression in grassroots sport development. This included support across rugby and athletics through initiatives such as the Athletics Race Fund (ARF).

Academy players Darlton Roy-George exemplified the impact of structured development pathways within the DBA Africa Academy, benefiting from consistent competition, mentorship, and performance support.

Fundraising, Safeguarding, and Social Impact

Community engagement remained a priority through a dedicated Fundraising Week, supporting athlete programmes and long-term sustainability. DBA Africa also delivered a Girls Rugby GBV Programme, using sport as a tool to address gender-based violence, promote safeguarding, and create safer sporting environments for young women.

Looking Ahead

Quarter One 2025 laid a strong foundation for continued growth in sports development Africa, blending performance, education, safeguarding, and community impact. As the year progresses, DBA Africa remains committed to building inclusive pathways, supporting young athletes, and using sport as a catalyst for positive social change across Kenya and beyond.
