DBA Africa’s Grand Finale: A Triumphant Quarter of Growth and Athletic Excellence
The final quarter of the year, spanning October through to December, proved to be one of DBA Africa's most impactful periods yet, marked by significant athletic achievements, powerful new collaborations, and a strong conclusion to our development programmes.
From international rugby debuts to successful grant acquisitions and grassroots festivals, the DBA Africa family finished the year on a high, setting the stage for an even bigger 2026.
October: International Debuts and Powerful Partnerships
October kicked off with immense pride as DBA Africa athlete Rayvon Forest Amunga made his stunning debut for the national development team, the Kenya 7s Morans. After gaining valuable experience with Shogun 7s and Army Rugby during his time in the UK at Bryanston School, Forest wasted no time applying his skills, earning a spot on the Morans squad for the annual Safari 7s where he was 3rd highest on the stats lists in the whole tournament with 47 points. Off the field, our network expanded significantly:
- Wazi Wazi Collaboration: The relationship with Wazi Wazi grew stronger through a co-branded donation of 120 essential training tops for our athletes.
- Healthy U Support: DBA Africa welcomed Healthy U as a key partner, securing valuable promotional space at various sporting events, crucial financial support towards athlete race entries, vast numbers of multivitamins for our young athletes and provided end of year gifts for our Rugby Academy awards.
- Athlete Success: Both the Kevin McCool Memorial Fund and Athletics Race Fund (ARF) athletes successfully competed in two regional competitions, showcasing excellent performances across the board.
November: MVP Titles and Global Exposure
November was dominated by international recognition and critical programme development:
- Forest's MVP Win: Forest continued his incredible form, not only helping the Morans emerge victorious in the Zimbabwe 7s International Tournament but also claiming the prestigious tournament MVP title in an electrifying final. From here he has been called up to the main Kenya Shujaa training squad.
- The Barbarians Grant: DBA Africa landed a pivotal grant with the Barbarians Foundation to support our impactful Tackle It programme, a testament to the programme's vital work in athlete welfare and education.
- DBA U15 at Africa Cup: Our DBA Under 15s team gained invaluable exposure by competing in the high-stakes Africa Cup, playing against local regional teams.
- UK Outreach: DBA Director, Storm Trentham traveled across the UK, strengthening links with UK schools, universities, and connecting directly with DBA Africa athletes currently on UK scholarships, hoping to secure future opportunities.
- Coastal Tour Triumph: The DBA Girls Futures Cup Dream Team, guided by Philip Wamae, Hassan Hajji Ali, Leaz, and Adelaide Mukhebi, embarked on a successful tour of the Coast. After playing tough fixtures against Rugby Gem, Ololo Foundation, LSO, and Bulldogs, the team emerged as tournament winners!
December: Closing the Year with a Grassroots Festival and a Brand Ambassador
DBA Africa concluded the year by giving back to the community, hosting a highly successful Nairobi-Based rugby Festival. Held at Kenton College, the tournament welcomed 220 young athletes from various Nairobi academies and schools. The festival featured competitive action across three age groups: Under 11, Under 13 (Boys), and Under 15 (Boys and Girls), providing a vibrant and memorable close to a spectacular year.
We are immensely proud of every athlete, partner, and supporter who made these achievements possible. As we head into the Christmas break, DBA Africa looks forward to building on this momentum for an even more successful and impactful 2026.
To finish the year, we were delighted that Forest signed his first Brand Ambassador contract with Healthy U, helping them promote their sports nutrition range. This is a wonderful opportunity for a new and upcoming athlete to use his talent to turn himself into a Brand.
