OUR ACADEMIES

At DBA Africa, we believe every girl deserves a chance; a chance to run, play, compete and lead, on the pitch, track and beyond. In communities where girls are often left on the sidelines, we’re using sport to shift the narrative.
Our community academies in Nairobi, Rift Valley, Coastal and Western Kenya actively recruit girls into structured rugby, athletics and lacrosse programmes. These are not separate sidelines but inclusive, intentional spaces within our academies, where female players train alongside their peers, supported by trained coaches and female mentors from their own communities.
ACADEMIESWe’ve also expanded this commitment to athletics, supporting emerging female runners in Iten through initiatives like the Athletes’ Race Fund and Kevin McCool Fund, providing kit, mentorship, and competition opportunities for girls chasing athletic dreams.
ATHLETICS RACE FUNDThe Futures Cup has been a game-changer in this journey. In 2023, we introduced the tournament’s first girls’ rugby match; by 2024, it had grown into a full girls’ division, with the Rift Valley Lakers crowned champions, a proud milestone in African grassroots rugby. And this is just the beginning.
TOURNAMENTS AND FESTIVALSOur programmes aim to tackle off-field barriers, offering life-skills education, period products, safe transport and safeguarding training to ensure no girl has to drop out of sport for reasons of dignity, protection or opportunity. We think, girls’ sport isn’t a side programme. It’s central to our vision for the future of African sport - shaping fearless girls into the next generation of changemakers in African sport and society.
