TBT: Standard Chartered Marathon Triumph in Nairobi.
We're throwing it back this Thursday to the thrilling weekend of the Standard Chartered Marathon in Nairobi. The Kevin McCool group, run by DBA Africa through the Kevin McCool Memorial Fund, showcased incredible resilience throughout the whole marathon. This was another group of athletes entered into the prestigious race.
The event, kicking off at Uhuru Park, was breathtaking, winding through the heart of Nairobi City, a perfect mix of bustling urban life and scenic views and DBA Africa was pleased to be part of this. We were immensely proud to have our athletes representing us and themselves in this amazing event. From a distance you could hear and see the different wildlife giving the runners a chance to sightsee as they competed.
We initially had 3 athletes in this race, however, only 2 were able to travel and compete. The athlete that couldn't travel had suffered an injury therefore not fit to participate in the marathon. At DBA we have safeguarding protocols that aid in allowing the children in our programs to participate freely.
Remarkable Runs in Elite Company
From the two athletes that were able to travel, Dickson Kosgei and Fredrick Kiptoo, tackled the challenging 42KM distance and performed remarkably well against an event packed with elite competitors also far away from the norm.
| Athlete | Time | Place |
| Fredrick Kiptoo | 2:28:46 | 62nd |
| Dickson Kosgei | 2:39:32 | 76th |
Coming in 60th and 76th, respectively, in a major international marathon is a spectacular achievement that reflects months of dedicated training. Congratulations to both Dickson and Fredrick on their strong finishes.
Celebrating Our Partners' Success
The DBA Africa, Kevin McCool Memorial Fund team was also privileged to support a wider group of athletes through one of our programs The Athletics Race Fund program and the collaboration with the incredible team at Healthy U, who have stood with us in our athletics journey. As always, we ensure these athletes are fully catered for, covering their essential accommodation, transport, and meals.
Among the athletes we support, Bernard Chepkwony delivered an absolutely astounding performance. Bernard finished with a winning time of 2:11:01, claiming the overall victory in the men's event. This victory is a testament to his talent and hard work, following up on his strong 21st-place finish at the Expressway Marathon (2:12:29), even after a challenging start. He has previously benefitted from the fund by competing in local based events.
We are thrilled to celebrate Bernard's massive success and the hard-earned results of every athlete we walk this journey with.
The Sky is the Limit.
As the year draws to a close, we look forward to the two major events scheduled for the closing months. We are committed to supporting our athletes as they prepare and compete, providing them with everything they need to succeed.
To all the athletes we work with, we wish you the very best in your upcoming races. Keep pushing, keep training, the sky is the limit.
