Introduction

DBA Africa serves as a critical catalyst for youth development by bridging the gap between grassroots talent and sporting opportunities. Our role is defined by a holistically, ensuring that progress in sport translates into progress in life.

The 4 Key Pillars of DBA Africa’s Impact

  • Regional Accessibility & Scale: By operating 9 academies across 4 regions in Kenya and Uganda, DBA Africa brings high-quality coaching to over 850 young athletes. This decentralised model ensures that talent in rural or underserved areas isn't "lost in the cracks" due to a lack of facilities or equipment.

  • The "Dual-Career" Mentality: A central part of our role is the belief that sport and education are inseparable. We don't just train players, we create scholarship pathways that allow talented athletes to access elite schooling and international opportunities, using sport as the vehicle for their academic advancement.

  • Character & Leadership Development: The curriculum focuses on "life tools", discipline, resilience, and integrity, preparing the youth to be leaders in their communities even if they do not pursue a professional sports career.

  • Bridging the Exposure Gap: Through flagship events like the Futures Cup and the Kingsley Cup, DBA Africa provides a professionalized tournament environment. These events serve as vital "scouting hubs" where athletes can be seen by recruiters and schools, offering a structured path to the next level of the game.

DBA ACADEMIES INTRODUCTION

Currently we operate 9 academies across 4 regions in Kenya and 1 in Uganda. Guided by all our key pillars, these academies are dedicated to equipping a wide pool of young rugby players with the skills, discipline, and life tools needed to thrive both on and off the pitch.
Our holistic approach focuses not only on developing athletic ability, but also on instilling values such as teamwork, resilience, leadership, and integrity. Through sport, we aim to empower youth to realise their full potential, creating a lasting impact far beyond the game.
For those who demonstrate exceptional talent, the journey doesn’t end at the academy. We provide clear and structured pathways through elite tournaments, talent showcases, and scholarship opportunities.

At DBA Africa, we believe that the pursuit of sporting excellence and formal education are inseparable pillars of a young person’s success. We are firmly committed to the philosophy that athletic talent is a powerful bridge to a brighter future, providing young athletes with the unique opportunity to transform their lives through academic advancement. Since our inception, we have been honored to partner with numerous forward-thinking institutions and schools that share our vision, extending vital support to our athletes as they balance the demands of the classroom with that of the pitch.

To facilitate these life-changing pathways, we actively utilize our premier rugby festivals, invited fixtures, the Futures Cup, and the Kingsley Cup as performance showcases for emerging talent. These platforms are designed to open doors, connecting our players with prestigious scholarship opportunities and academic scouts. We warmly invite school heads, games masters, and educators to visit our academies and attend DBA Africa events to witness firsthand the discipline and skill of our athletes. Together, we can create a sustainable ecosystem where sporting passion serves as a catalyst for educational achievement and lifelong empowerment.

This goes hand in hand with our core pillars, changing lives through sport, pathways from grassroots to greatness, girls inclusion and local leadership.

Support for Regional Sports Academies

DBA Africa believes in strengthening existing community structures, not competing with them.

Across Kenya and Uganda, we partner with grassroots sports academies to provide training support, equipment, and development resources, helping local organisations to thrive in their own communities.

This approach reflects global development guidelines, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which recognise the power of sport to promote good health, quality education, gender equality, and stronger, more inclusive communities.
