Global Impact, Amady Diallo Transitions from DBA Africa to Head of Rugby School.
At DBA Africa, we believe that developing coaches with global exposure strengthens the entire ecosystem of African rugby. Our mission has always been to create opportunities for coaches and players alike to learn, grow and lead, both locally and internationally.
In this regard, we are absolutely thrilled to share some exciting news with the DBA Africa and Wazi Wazi Rugby Academy community. Our esteemed coach, Amady Diallo, is taking his experience and leadership skills to Europe, joining Rugby Club Arlésien (RCA) in France for the 2025/2026 season as the Head of the Rugby School!
This announcement marks a big step in Amady’s career and is a testament to his work and the quality of coaching and development nurtured within the DBA Africa framework.
A Powerful Return to Rugby Club Arlesien
Amady is no stranger to Rugby Club Arlésien, he previously played for the club, meaning he knows the organization inside and out. Bringing a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach, Amady is determined to help RCA's Rugby School reach new heights.
In his comprehensive role, he will be responsible for overseeing the entire Rugby School, leading several key age groups, and playing an active part in recruiting the next generation of young French rugby talent.
The Value of Global Experience
Amady's transition is built on a foundation of diverse, high-level coaching experiences, especially his time spent with our team in Nairobi. He credits the structure he encountered here as invaluable:
"I have learned a lot, especially the Wazi Wazi program. The best is the different approach from all the countries I have stayed in. The DBA structure is very rich... I really enjoyed being part of DBA."
Amady’s experience, enriched by the Wazi Wazi philosophy, provides him with a unique global perspective that he will now bring to the French system. His journey reflects DBA Africa’s commitment to cross-cultural learning and coach development inKenya, enabling African coaches to gain international exposure and return with knowledge that benefits local programmes.
A Focus on Safety and Structure
Now coaching in France, Amady has offered insights into the rigorous and structured environment there, which emphasizes player safety above all else:
- Certification is Key: Coaching in France is strictly regulated, requiring multiple certifications to ensure high standards.
- Safety First for Forwards: For older children (U14), those who wish to play in the forward positions must pass specific physical tests administered by the union to ensure they are physically ready for the role.
- Progressive Contact: Youngest players (U6 and U8) begin with touch rugby to learn the fundamentals, where they must pass the ball within two seconds. Full contact only begins around the U10 to U14 age groups, and even then, contesting the ruck is often limited in early tournaments to ensure a steady progression.
Amady’s experience offers valuable lessons for Kenya. The French model shows how structure and regulation protect players while improving standards of play. Kenya’s rugby ecosystem could greatly benefit from adopting similar frameworks , clearer registration systems, progressive contact policies, and mandatory safety certifications for coaches. Such measures would not only safeguard young athletes but also ensure they are better prepared, technically and physically, for the demands of the game
Amady’s ability to adapt, learn, and implement these diverse global standards is what makes him a world-class coach. His appointment reinforces DBA Africa’s growing reputation as a hub for rugby coaching in Africa and developing world-class mentors. His success continues to inspire the next generation of coaches coming through DBA’s academies and programmes.
Lyle Asiligwa, Director at DBA Africa, shared his words of support:
“We are incredibly proud of Amady and what he represents for African rugby. His journey from KenyaHarlequins, to our coaching structures, to a leadership role in France shows what belief, structure and opportunity can do. He carries with him the values of DBA and continues to open doors for others to follow.”
A Message to Our Coaches
As he departs for his new challenge, Amady leaves a motivating message for the rising coaches within the DBA Africa system: "Just keep pushing the young coaches."
We are incredibly proud to see one of our own step into such a significant leadership position on the international stage. Thank you, Amady, for your dedication, and we wish you the very best of luck in your new role at Rugby Club Arlésien!
