NDUME 7s 2026
Lessons, Growth, and the Bigger Picture for DBA Africa U13
The recent Pembroke Ndume 7s tournament in Gilgil was a big step forward for the DBA Africa U13 rugby team. It gave our young players a chance to grow as athletes, experience new cultures, and make lasting memories.
The DBA team faced tough opponents from the start. After a 21-0 loss to Tatu City, the boys showed great determination and bounced back with a 12-5 win over the Nondies Cubs. Later matches against strong teams like Gilgil Vumbi, Phoenix Rugby, and Uganda’s Kyadondo were tough, but each game helped the boys improve. Every moment on the field gave them a chance to use what they learned in practice and build resilience.
A Journey of Firsts and Life-Changing Opportunities
The Ndume 7s was about more than just rugby. For many of our players, the trip to Gilgil was full of new experiences. They got to travel outside of Nairobi, sleep in their own beds, and enjoy regular, healthy meals and experience a hot running shower. These moments meant a lot to the team and gave them memories and confidence that will last.
Some players also stood out on the field. Twelve-year-old Tilen Ochieng had an excellent tournament for DBA Africa Rugby Academy. He showed courage in defence with important tackles and was a strong attacker, often breaking through and helping his teammates.
Connecting to the Bigger Picture
While scoreboard success remains a future goal, DBA Africa views tournaments like the Pembroke Ndume 7s through a much larger lens. The event served as a vibrant hub for networking and international exposure. Our players had the unique privilege of interacting with and learning from big institutions such as Bryanston School and Loretto.
Winning is always a goal, but DBA Africa sees tournaments like the Pembroke Ndume 7s as much more. The event was a great place for our players to meet others and gain international experience.
Gratitude to Our Community
The Ndume 7s showed that grassroots rugby is really about community, fairness, and giving young people a chance to grow. DBA Africa is very grateful to the organisers for remembering the importance of age grade rugby for those outside of IAPS teams. By supporting grassroots rugby, you are helping to build the next generation of strong, motivated young men and women, both on and off the field.
