The Amady Method

From Kenya to France, A Journey in Rugby Coaching and Global Youth Sports Development

In the world of Sports Development Africa, few stories capture the spirit of growth, resilience, and global impact quite like that of Coach Amady Diallo. After spending five impactful years contributing to grassroots sports development in Africa, Coach Diallo returned to France to take on a new leadership chapter, one that reflects both his experience and passion for youth development through sport.

For the 2025/2026 season, Coach Diallo has been appointed Head of the Rugby School and Sports Director at Rugby Club Arlésien in Arles, France. The role marks a meaningful homecoming to a club where he once played and built strong connections within the community.

A Return Years in the Making

Interestingly, this opportunity first arose years ago. Before Diallo moved to Kenya, his former club had already offered him the chance to lead their Rugby School. At the time, however, family commitments meant the opportunity had to wait, his wife had been assigned to Kenya for work, prompting the move that would ultimately connect him with Africa’s growing sports academy ecosystem. Now, five years later, when the club learned Diallo was returning to France, they reached out again, reaffirming their belief in his leadership and vision for youth rugby.

A Leader in Youth Rugby Development

Today, Coach Diallo’s role at Rugby Club Arlésien extends far beyond the sidelines. As Head of the Rugby School, he is responsible for shaping the future of young players through structured training, mentorship, and recruitment. His responsibilities include:

  • Coaching the Under-14 team, developing young talent through structured youth sports programs
  • Training and mentoring the club’s coaching staff to strengthen technical standards
  • Delivering rugby sessions in local middle schools and primary schools to expand access to the sport
  • Supporting the senior team as part of the club’s coaching staff
  • Identifying and recruiting promising young athletes to join the rugby pathway

Through this work, Diallo continues to demonstrate how sport-based life skills training can shape discipline, teamwork, and confidence in young people.

From Africa’s Grassroots to Europe’s Community Clubs

Coach Diallo’s time working in Kenya gave him deep insight into holistic youth development frameworks used in sports development Kenya and sports development Africa initiatives. The experience reinforced the power of community impact through rugby, where sport becomes a platform for leadership, education, and opportunity.

The lessons learned in grassroots sports development Africa now inform his work in France, creating a bridge between two continents united by a shared belief, sport can transform lives. His coaching philosophy reflects the same values that underpin many Sustainable Youth Development Programmes across Africa, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and the courage to dream bigger.

Levelling the Playing Field Through Sport

At its heart, Diallo’s story is about opportunity. Whether working in youth rugby academies, local schools, or international development programmes, his mission remains consistent, levelling the playing field through sport. By nurturing young players and empowering coaches, he contributes to the broader movement of sports as a tool for social change, one that continues to grow across Africa and Europe alike.

The journey of Amady Diallo reflects the growing global network of coaches and mentors working to strengthen youth development through sport. After several years contributing to community rugby and youth training programmes in Kenya, Diallo has returned to Europe with new perspectives shaped by grassroots sports development in Africa.

A Shared Vision for the Future

As organisations such as DBA Africa expand sports opportunities, sports scholarships, and youth sports programs in Africa, stories like Diallo’s highlight the importance of global knowledge exchange in sport. Coaches who move between continents bring valuable experience that strengthens both systems, from rugby development Kenya and athletics development Kenya to community clubs in Europe. For Coach Diallo, the mission remains simple, to develop people first, athletes second, and in Arles, a new generation of players are already beginning that journey.

This connection highlights the broader vision behind Sustainable Youth Development Programmes and Social Impact Through Sport Kenya. By investing in youth rugby academies, athletics programmes, and partnerships with schools and communities, sport becomes more than competition, it becomes a powerful engine for youth empowerment partnerships across East Africa and beyond. Stories like Diallo’s demonstrate how community impact through rugby can extend far beyond a single country. When knowledge flows between Africa and Europe, young athletes gain access to stronger coaching pathways, expanded sports opportunities, and the chance to grow not only as players, but as leaders.

The message remains clear, sport has the power to connect continents, unlock potential, and build a future where every young athlete has the opportunity to thrive.
